TIFFANY GREGORICH, JR., ALTOONA, AND JAKE VOELTZ, SR., RIVER FALLS, WERE NAMED THE WIAC  BASKETBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCES RECENTLY. IT’S RARE THAT A PLAYER FROM ANY ONE WIAC TEAM IS SO HONORED, AND DOUBLY UNUSUAL WHEN FALCON PLAYERS FROM BOTH MEN’S AND WOMEN’S TEAMS ARE NAMED IN THE SAME WEEK. GREGORICH IS THE FIRST FALCON TO BE NAMED ON THE WOMEN’S TEAM THIS SEASON. VOELTZ IS THE THIRD. JONTAE KOONKAEW HAS BEEN SO HONORED TWICE EARLIER THIS SEASON.

GREGORICH SCORED 51 POINTS IN TWO GAMES LAST WEEK, 31 IN A 71-62 LOSS AT WHITEWATER, 20 IN A 61-47 WIN OVER STOUT. HER TOTALS FOR THE TWO GAMES:  49% (17/35) ON FIELD GOALS, INCLUDING 5/12 ON THREE’S; 85% (12/14) ON FREE THROWS; 11 REBOUNDS (SHE’S 5’5″); FIVE STEALS; THREE ASSISTS.

VOELTZ HAD 40 POINTS IN TWO GAMES, 28 IN AN 85-79 OVERTIME WIN IN WHITEWATER, 12 IN AN 86-71 WIN OVER STOUT. HIS TOTALS:  60%  (15/25) ON FIELD GOALS, 83% (10/12) ON FREE THROWS, 18 REBOUNDS, THREE BLOCKED SHOTS, THREE ASSISTS. TWELVE OF HIS REBOUNDS CAME AGAINST WHITEWATER, ALLOWING HIM TO CLAIM A DOUBLE/DOUBLE.

THE FALCON MEN (6-0 WIAC, 13-2 OVERALL) PLAY LACROSSE WEDNESDAY, 7:00, IN RIVER FALLS. THE WOMEN (3-3, WIAC, 11-4 OVERALL) TRAVEL TO LACROSSE WEDNESDAY FOR A 7:00 GAME. BOTH TEAMS PLAY IN RIVER FALLS SATURDAY AGAINST PLATTEVILLE. THE MEN’S GAME IS AT 4:00, THE WOMEN’S AT 6:00.

THE LACROSSE MEN’S TEAM WILL FEATURE THE LEAGUE’S HIGHEST SCORING PLAYER, TONY MANE, WHO IS AVERAGING OVER 23 POINTS PER GAME. SO BE THERE TO SEE THE FALCON MEN EXTEND THEIR NINE GAME WINNING STREAK. THERE ARE NO WORTHY EXCUSES FOR BEING ABSENT.

HOWEVER, IF YOU DON’T WANT TO COME TO THE GAME, NOBODY’S GOING TO STOP YOU. HOW’S THAT FOR AN ELEVATED THOUGHT? I SHOULD GIVE CREDIT TO YOGI BERRA, BUT I DON’T WANT TO. HE SAID SOMETHING ALMOST AS GOOD ONCE.
